YFE The Animated Adventures Ep 5

Be careful not to meditate too hard, or you might pass-out.
Yes, I know, WTF?

During 2011, I was recruited by the Canadian band “Your Favorite Enemies” to produce a series of short animations. I was originally invited over with many possibilities up in the air for illustration work, but in the end I settled with time consuming task of animating short episodes which were presented during the band's live Ustream broadcasts, titled "The BlaBlaBla."

As we approach the 2nd anniversary of this missing episode, I have decided to do something with it and post it. It tells the story of Alex looking for locations in Japan to film for his next project while the rest of the band arrive later and do a bit of the usual tourist activities.

YFE - The Animated Adventures [playlist]

During 2011, I was working with the Canadian band Your Favorite Enemies. As well as providing some fun illustrations, I produced a series of short animations which were shown at the end of their live Ustream broadcast. They had a broadcast roughly once a month. I did a total of 5 animations for them over the course of 8 months. Each episode had a 3 or 4 week turnaround.

I managed to create a playlist which skips to the segments where my animation is shown. I included some commentary from the band before and after the segments, but just in case there are any glitches (or you just get bored), you can easily skip to the next episode.

I have included some promo images I did (for myself for fun) after the jump...

Your Favorite Enemies (Isometric RPG Perspective) 2011

Back in the summer of 2011, I was working on a series of animations for the band "Your Favorite Enemies."  During a quiet period while waiting for the next script, I created some rough concept art for a different kind of animation. I didn't have a story or anything in mind, I just wanted to see if it would be interesting to do something in an isometric perspective. During that time, FaceBook games such as FarmVille, CityVille and Indiana Jones Adventure World were popular. Although I am not a fan of level grinding time-sink games like them, I like what they do with the isometric layout.

The following are a collection of rough work that wasn't really intended to be a finished representation of anything.

Reflections from a Diamond

This is the picture that appears at the end of Miss Isabel's blog Voyage A La Mer... A Diamond Shaped Journey. I was asked to simply read the blog and create a picture inspired by what I read. So, this is what came to mind.

The idea is based on light passing through a diamond and the light being broken into fragments and scattered around the room. The guys tell their story about their journey to Japan, their story a collage of experiences... Not yet edited into a perfect picture or movie... Not yet polished (like a diamond).

Super Chuck

Today was Chuck's birthday.
It was difficult drawing him this year... he use to have a big bushy beard and a slightly longer hair.
Chuck is the new recruit on the YFE MySpace UK & Ireland Street Team... He is not a new kid in the camp, he is just new on the community page itself.

Snap-shot from a Dream

I had a strange dream the other night (not last night... the night before that. 9th-10th Nov ).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Amy

"I said I want to be a ninja; they say I can't have a shell! I am born to be....lol. Seriously, I'm born for something greater than any imagination, greater than what's considered possible! We all are! The impossible is always possible!"
                                                                                                - Amy

My friend Amy (from the YFE* crew) made that post on her Facebook status... it inspired me to do the picture.

If you are ever stuck for inspiration or are experiencing an artist's block, check out your friends' status on Facebook. Who knows what might inspire you.

Kanu, the Ladies Man

Kanu was a ladies man... I guess he has to fill the hot tub somehow these days

This a picture for Kanu's birthday...the thing is this is very VERY later!! His birthday was 2 weeks ago.

The idea behind this was to play on the idea that Kanu was a ladies man. In the early episodes of YFE-TV, Kanu pretty much had a harem of attractive ladies waiting for him when he got home and as well as joining him in the hot tub... I wanted to revisit that idea but at the same time do something funny.

Sandra and Marjolene's Birthdays

Happy Birthday Sandra and Marjolene!!
This is a late birthday picture. For those who might not know who these two are: Sandra is involved with the YFE Merchandise Store and Marjolene is involved with promoting. Their birthdays were earlier in the week. My time management is all over the place since I came back from my summer in Canada and I didn't quite throw myself into this picture like I normally do.

Christine's Birthday

A Belated Happy Birthday. Christine loves her vegetable garden.
Last week was Christine's birthday. I was working on this picture at the time, but I decided to not do anything with it in the end.

And now that I look at this again... it doesn't even look like her.

More Than Colouring Pencils... A Life In Technicolour

I did this picture as part of my interview with Miss Isabel. I think my answers were longer than she expected and the interview had to be divided into two parts. Both parts of my interview are available now on the Your Favorite Eneimes' Mypsace page.

Moose going too far with Twitter

A request from Miss Isabel. She had the idea for a picture of Charles going too far with his love for Twitter.

Vintage Big Bird

I was asked to do these nearly a year ago. I still don't know why! They were never used in the end.
Big Bird (Matt) has changed his look since then.

Space... The Final Frontier

I already posted pictures of the sketches and cleaned-up line work of these two weeks ago. I finally got a Intuos4 (and yes, I am worried about the corrosive work surface and fragile USB connection) which meant I could finally colour some things in

There is a bit of a story behind them. I was working in the studio with Sef quite a bit, so I was inspired (or ordered, I can't remember) to draw a Space Gorilla based on his tattoo. I went with a "dirty" look for it, a break away from my usual child-friendly work.

Sef:
'Do you know what would look good with a Space Gorilla?
A Space Moose!!'

Miss Isabel came to be with an idea for a picture...

You too can Follow Jeff on Twitter. Are you "rock" enough to Follow Sef?

Juliette's Birthday - YFE France

Yesterday was Juliette's birthday. Naturally, like all things, I only discovered that morning. It took me most of the day to figure how I was going to draw her. I then procrastinated for awhile and then eventually thought about what I was going to do for the background.
She had recently returned from an adventure in Tennessee where she visited the Smokey Mountains... and saw a bear.

I added a bit of black and white colour to this image in Photoshop using the Magnetic Lasso tool.
The picture I gave Juliette only had the pencil.
